Session Overview

This session will provide a first contact with fractions and their equivalence to decimal numbers

  • Agility with fractions in different operations
  • Understanding the concepts of numerator and denominator
  • Complete introduction to Polyup (6th to 8th Grade)
    • Knowing how to use numbers (circular blocks) and operations (square blocks)
    • Knowing how to manage stacks
  • Knowledge of basic operations: addition, subtraction, division and multiplication

Getting students ready

  1. Students should go to
  2. Students should go to on their computer, tablet or smartphone.
  • They should click on the play button to access the Polyup environment.
  • If they have an account, they can sign in with their username or email, if not, they should create a student account.
  • Students should click on Poly at the bottom and enter the following code: MNFXKFU

Starting the session

  1. The teacher should beam the presentation so that all students can see
  2. Students should open the first chip and try to find the solution after seeing the presentation
    1. The teacher should use it to explain the concept of decimal number or fraction (depending on which have already been seen in class), using the other and explaining the equivalence
    2. The teacher should show the solution in the board after a few minutes approximately.
  3. Students should open the second chip and try to find the solution.
    1. The teacher should show the solution in the board after  a few minutes approximately.
  4. The rest of the chips should be solved by the students on their own, either in class or at home.
